The week of January 28, 2011
Posted by: | Comments“HOME ICE” Wethersfield Cove, is buried again. The Town of Wethersfield was unable to uphold their commitment to clearing the lot last week. The lot has not been plowed, but we can’t blame’em. Those town employees are really working hard to keep the schools and all open and safe. Same situation is reported all over the state as town budgets have been crushed with excess overtime and other costs of snow removal.
Despite the challenges, Sunday’s event was a total success. Over 100 hardcore faithful turned out. Check out the vid at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjbwwQQ_11U
If you missed it, you missed one hell of a great day! We are already planning next year’s…
There is plenty of thick ice everywhere now (13-17 around Hartford). This bodes very well for March, as the thicker the ice now, the longer the season can go. The snow pack up north has us a little concerned about the rivers for springtime, but there’s not anything we can do, just wait and hope that the high water in spring doesn’t pose too much problem.
Very few reports since the most recent storm with only a few digging in to reach the ice.
Sliva cranked up the snowmachine and pulled all of his gear far out to the north side of W.C. this week and was rewarded with a bunch of Crappie and Perch.
Mr. Perch got spooled on Roger’s (its tough getting to a flag in time in all this recent snow) but was able to retrieve and land the LMB responsible.
Paul D has been SLAMMIN MONSTER CRAPPIE. He just registered an 18” monster, (forget dinner plate, more like a manhole cover) in the “CT-O season Long Ice Tourney. He’s really throwin it down, who’s gonna answer the challenge????
Phil from Meriden punished Besek this week despite the storm and lack of parking. His day ended up with a 25” PIKE, some healthy, fat Perch and a 17” Largie. Not a bad mixed bag, heh?
Marine: probably won’t be marine news until spring, but if anything notable is reported (cod, Pollock, etc) I’ll include it over the winter.
CT-Outfitters’ SEASON-LONG ICE TOURNAMENT IS OPEN! Tourney closes March Friday, March 11th 2011. Check out the rules in the store or at
www.CT-Outfitters.com . There is no entry fee. Goodwill donations of 3$ per entry will be accepted and will be used to support “Reelin in Kids”, a non-profit run by Riverfront Recapture.
